i am going to buy a 2001 freightliner classic with 12.7 and over a million miles or a 2010 pro star with the isx with 500,000 miles. I don't know enough to make the best choice. I got to get it right the first time any help be great.

Avoid the Cummins ISX. The D60 will be more reliable. I wish I had followed my mechanic's advice and ditched the Cummins the first time I needed major engine repair.

The Cummins has two cams instead of one. More labor and moving parts. Besides which, the 2010 year is smack in the middle of issues regarding the DEF system.

A 2001 D60? If it checks out well with a dyno test I would be all over that. Does it come with maintenance records?

Edited to add: I am considering switching mechanics, based on recommendations from other drivers in the OKC area. I went to chat with him last month. He services all of the Braums fleet, which all have Cummins in them. He has D60's crated and ready just for them. Whenever they run into major issues with a Cummins engine they have him drop in a D60.

    Just saying...

Good luck my friend. I would be hard pressed to buy a 2010 anything. The truck with 1million miles will need everything fixed or replaced soon. Both probly bad choices if you don't have any cash reserves based on the limited information.

I run a 60 series. Great motor for what I do. But at those miles, see if it has had a recent true overhaul.
Wish I had an old mechanical Cat tho...

The million mile truck was rebuilt 600,000 miles on it. It also is one owner and has been kept up on.

Million mile truck does not scare me at all. I use it as as negotiating lever.

Trade you, somewhere between 400k and 1m miles on the motor, leaks like the Exxon Valdez and tires are about 25% but on the plus side the air conditioning does not work. 219 wheel base.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
