Under a hard pull I’ve noticed a sharp exhaust manifold or turbo gasket noise. It is neither. Also under a light pull like leaving red light my purge valve ( I think ) stays open until I let off the fuel. It also does this with the cruise on going down the interstate. Once I stop giving it fuel the dryer will purge and all is fine. Everything is new except dryer. I say I think purge valve because it’s coming from the dryer. The sound of air coming out I’m thinking can not be coming from pop off valve. Pretty sure I know the answer. Buy new dryer. Yea ok 900$. But it’s attached to long tank. What’s in the tank? So on and so forth
12.7 under extreme boost 28-30lbs I hear teapot sound. Air Dryer?.

Remember on those old engines the air compressor pulled from the pressurized intake stream. If you look at the diagrams for those old air dryers they have what I believe was called a turbo protection valve. Something in that vein anyways. That's what's bad.
Sorry I don't remember any more details, as it was 25 years ago last I messed with oneRideandrepair, Banker and Stantonjohnson8 Thank this. -
Picture of this tank would be helpful... I think I have an idea what the tank is but want to see before I say.Rideandrepair and Stantonjohnson8 Thank this.

Let me me get parked up this evening I’ll send some. I’m thinking the fella up top is on to something. My turbo protection valve inside the dryer is bad. I looked up the haledex diagram online mine has one of those protection valvesRideandrepair and 77fib77 Thank this.

If you have a 12.7 with egr check you're rubber tubes going up to the hood. They can bust causing over boost situation. Also the charge air cooler may need checking.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

Does your rig hold air if the rig is shut off? Not too long ago my air dryer filter developed a sizable hole. I change my filter every year before the first cold snap. I thought it was odd to develop a hole but my mechanic said he sees it occasionally. That would make a large hissing noise at higher boost. I have a 12.7 with a nice tune and my turbo whistles going down the road anyway.
Stantonjohnson8, Oxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this.
