The labor board did tell me many years ago that if my average salary dropped below the minimum wage they could get involved but that was the only way. Trucking has never been required to pay time and half time though or double time.

It's all relative to where the job is. A grand a week and home every night is not a bad gig in BFE Mississippi. In other words, while you hang up and laugh, Billy Joe is strapping in and getting ready to boil lobsters. Sal in Jersey not so much.
Oldironfan, mickimause, rustyswife and 4 others Thank this. -

That is pretty crummy, but not totally out of line, you are starting at the bottom. To put things in perspective, in the mid 80's, I applied for ( and got) a tanker job hauling hazmat, only they didn't call it hazmat then, suicide jockey, was more like it. The job was gasoline, propane and anhydrous ammonia( nasty stuff)Starting pay, $7.50/hr.( or about $17.00 today) I was young and stupid, and said, what the heck, they promised teens/hr. "in a few short years". Long story short, I worked there 2 days, as a ride along, and told them to cram it with walnuts.
