So when a 1099 employee gets hurt at work the hospital bill goes to them.
If the hospital bill is beyond what the employee can hope to pay the hospital
attorneys will go after the employer that should have been paying for
workers comp coverage in the first place.
If the employee is disabled they will have to go after the employer also.
Regular health insurance will not work they will not provide coverage the
    the employer should be covering.
I was able to buy workers comp coverage for $110 per month from Montana state fund.
That was with very little income coverage only medical.

I believe the distinction technically is that if you receive a 1099 then you are self employed, not an employee.

If you are 1099, then you are self employed, and if you're screwing the driver you are screwing yourself.

You are self employed if the IRS says you are. Most 1099's do not meet what IRS says is an Independent Contractor.(self employees)
You can call yourself Cleopatra, Queen of The NIle. You will not, however actually be Cleopatra

It's not so bad. It takes a different skill set and you have to focus on what you'e doing but the accident rate is surprisingly low.
Logging trucks get into most of their accidents on the highway, not in the woods.

I am self-employed, and the IRS has absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact that I find my work, bill for it, and collect the money is what makes me self employed. I pay for FICA, workers comp, unemployment, and health insurance for our employees. I don't receive 1099s, except for investments, because of being incorporated.

Yes, it screws driver over. Now, having that issue on a side,
My main intention was to get your attention and have you answer my previously ignored question.
It was very frustrating and I was very surprised, to find out, that you have no real business o/o experience, yet in many threads you are bashing people, argue and tell them what to do.

Several years ago, this bus company, only had 2 buses and paid under a 1099. Well one foggy morning, one of the buses was involved in a serious accident. Personal injuries and property damage. Driver of bus, being paid under a 1099, hospitalized, medical bills through the roof. Owner of the bus company "walked away" without paying one dime, the driver had to pay for his own medical bills, plus being sued over the accident. The driver was classified as an "independent contractor" by working under a 1099 and he was held responsible, owner "walked away".
