Please. Do what you gotta do. If that means working 1099 for awhile until you can get back on your feet then do that. You can always pay those IRS folks their money later. It’ll cost you a little more but at least you’ll be in a better position financially. I did 1099 for 6 months. Made tons of dough. Bought a brand new car, paid for some dental work, paid all my bills and still got plenty of cash left over stashed away for a rainy day. Went down to the federal building and worked out a payment plan with the IRS. I owed them money anyway so what the hey. I was in survival mode during that time so the IRS would just have to wait. Best decision I’ve ever made. But everyone is different. Good luck

Thank you for the comment. You're absolutely correct, i did what's best considering the circumstances. I actually end up makin a lot more money with 1099 then I would off ever make with with W2. And I paid no more than 10-20% overall taxes.

1099 jobs aren't bad IF you can handle you money, and no how to plan. Just take $50-100 every week put it in a separate bank account. Every 3 months empty it put and send that to the irs. Come April you will either have a small amount you owe (less than a grand) or if you fin a good tax person. Will be either break even or will have a refund coming. Do what ya gotta do to feed the family.

"1099 jobs ain't bad", well I guess if a person is willing to pay 100% of his S.S. instead of half. And I guess 1099 ain't bad, if you are willing to take the chance of an "on the job injury" and no Workman's Comp. Ain't bad if you are never involved in a serious accident and by being classified as an "independent contractor" you could be facing financial ruin.

But who am I to tell a mature person all this. Do what needs to be done "to feed the family", but be careful.
