I had a broke AC line (freon leaked out) that I replaced. I would like to charge the system but the compressor won't engage. I checked power at the fuse and 2 relays (good). No power at the AC compressor. With direct power applied to compressor it kicks on but I'm afraid to damage a new compressor. Are there any tricks to this?

See if you have one of these mounted on the firewall on the left hand side. Usually on the side of coolant reservoir. If you do, you have to reset it by keying on, and then off 4 times in 4 seconds.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Didn't see one but I did try it. Clutch engages for a sort period (maybe 30 sec) then disengages after engine start.

Low pressure cut off switch is shutting off power to compressor

Ok. How do i get it to take freon if the low press switch shuts off power to the compressor

You really should be using a proper ac machine. It should be vacuumed down to remove all moisture and air and hold a vacuum for 10 mins or longer to make sure there are no further leaks. Then get it charged. Your truck should hold 4 pounds of 134a.

Will go that route then. Thanks

As mentioned above, there are usually high and low switches on the A/C system. If the static pressure is too low in the system, the low pressure switch will be open and prevent the compressor from engaging.
