In looking at schools I keep running into them saying that I need to provide my past three years work history.
These past three years have been the worst in my life. I collected 2 yrs straight of unemployment bc construction has tanked so bad and after that ran out in jan. of this year I'v been screwed. I did manage to hook on at a job for a little over a week till we ran out of work as once again I'm laid off with no unemploiment or income of any sort. Here and there I picked up a few small cash jobs along the way that helped out but cant evenn find them any more.
Are these companys now going to hold that against me like I didnt want to work or something?
Do any of u know if this is going to be a problem ?

Why does everyone think trucking is the "Golden Egg" of a career and run to training schools when their normal job dries up?

Nothing personal but why trucking? What about further education for something else? Just curious....

Why were you out of work for two years? Did you just limit yourself to a construction trade? just curious?

Are you looking at schools, or trucking companies? I'm going to a CDL school now and they did not care about my work history, but when I called trucking companies that hire students, a lot of them wanted that work history (which I also did not have because I moved to a different country to try and run my own business, which tanked). But I did find 3 companies that said they would hire me without that work history, so give them a call and talk with a recruiter to see if they can help you too: Werner, Swift and US Xpress.

In and out of training in 10 weeks. Start making money by the 11th week.
Govt pays 100% of the school.
Recruiters for both the School and the Trucking Companies blowing smoke up everyone of the students arses about the huge driver shortage and the big money that they will make driving truck.
And again, Our Govt paying 100% for the school.

Actually I dont think its a "golden egg" I think its a way to keep afloat these days. Further education would be great! Who's gonna pay for that? And who's gonna pay my bills wile I do it ?
I'm that person for my wife right now so I'm gonna do what I have to do wile shes in school.
Why was I unemploied for so long? Because I'v been a union carpenter for 12 years. I'm well trained and very good at what I do. I'v made a good living and this has been a profesional career for me. I expected to continue in that career for the rest of my life and fully expected everything to bounce back so I kept at it trying to find work in my feild as any profesional would.
On top of that I'v tried to get into other fields . I sined up to be an electrician, but didnt pass the "oral exam" (didnt know I needed to be a salesman) Tried working in my brother-in-laws auto repair shop, he's not making any money ether. I'v tried finding work in the area but 10 bux an hr isnt going to cut it in the long run . Not that I was able to even get on in the short run of things. The econemy is very bad for those of us who have made our living in the trades, so I thought I'd try getting into a business thats actually not dead and I can get into rather quickly as mentioned above befor my wife and I loose our home. So theres ur answer. That and my Dads been a driver for ever :)
Thanks for ur responces. I hope u guys are right about finding work. Iv been looking at schools and would pay for myself if I can. Gov. picking up the tab would be great but I'd be shocked as they'v never done sh** for me befor . I did apply for what ever assistence at addt in ohio. We'll see how that goes. Havent heard back yet.
Ofcourse the schools I dont trust dont seem to have any issues with me going threw them. I'm just afraid I'm gonna get burned going threw their program.

There is a difference between being fired from 8 jobs in a year and being laid off due to the economy or whatever. Most jobs will overlook a less than perfect job history if you present yourself in a professional manner and 'appear' to be what they are looking for. If you showed up to an interview in torn jeans, a racist tattoo on your forehead, and smelled like elk urine, they wouldn't hire you if you had a doctorate degree...you get the point. The best thing to do is do not hide anything from your potential employer because that will only give them the right to cause problems for you later.

just keep applying to different places, someone will take you. your position isnt as bad as alot of the others that post on here.

you arent the homeless guy w/ a criminal record, plus terrible job history, and no money or car...and still gets accepted.

Oil fields are looking for workers in the trades. I know how the unions view working for a non union shop, but I understand it pays very well as long as you can put up with the inevitable guy on a power trip who tries to tell you what to do when you're at camp.

You have to do what's necessary to survive. If that means stepping out of UBC for a while, then that's what it means. About the only UBC work in this area is refineries. And I'm not even sure they still have that contract.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do.
