Good engines. Just keep overheads set, tend to wear out rocker tips and end up with cam followers issues if you don't.

That’s something I learned years ago with race engines. Anything with roller rockers in it doesnt like excessive valve lash, and they have a couple of nasty ways to tell you that.

I think we've decided on the 430/1650. It's got to be better than the multi-torque file. I just don't want to stress the motor with too much power or with not enough. I think that file will do the trick.

That engine is available at over 700hp as a propulsion engine. I wouldn’t worry too much about hurting it with a truck engine file in it.

Okay. I knew they ran them in boat, but I wasn't sure. Do you think the rv/emergency file would be better? I've heard of success with them in other truck engines. I was also told that the rv/emergency torque rise wasn't as good as the 430/1650 on the C12.
Thanks for the info. I knew they were ran in boats, but I wasn't sure the max hp. Do you think the rv/emergency file would be better? I've heard of success with them in other truck engines. Although, I was told that the rv/emergency torque rise wasn't as good as the 430/1650 on the C12.

I know of people got headfaked by rv/fire truck files. One ran ok but not noticeably better, but it had an Allison in it. I think you’re right, it’s probably the torque-rise in those files makes them fall on their face a bit with a standard transmission. Unless you plan on being in the left lane with it on the governor all day. That 430/1650 truck engine file should do nicely.

Marine duty cycle is totally different. RV file is for racing thru lights, Truck file for pulling weight. Genuine BW 172753 is a nice upgrade on the C-12.

There’s a couple of those engines around here in 5axle rigid frame pulpwood trucks. I don’t know what ones, but they have Cat truck engine files and different turbos on them. They come out of the bush right with the 14 and 15L trucks. 430/1650 would be more than decent numbers out of a mechanical 14L. Like it should run right over a 444 with that much torque at 430hp.
