Agreed...and, Detroit parts are usually about a quarter or half the cost of KW/Pacaar

Hurst have you replaced the sensor in the tank that tells you fuel level. Been putting it off but need to go ahead and get it taken care of. Shows E with about 70 gallons left in tank.

Hah,.. try owning a Columbia with a C15. I cant begin to count how many times I stopped in to Freightliner only to be told they had no CAT specialist. It got to the point where I was just go to Pete/Kenworth or directly to CAT. I have stopped dealing with Freightliner all together. Its been 2 yrs and I only took it there then because they were the only one I could get to do the chassis side wiring harness.

After about a year or 2 in this business you learn who not to bring your truck to. Then develop your own network of shops you know and trust to take your truck with. Then once you get a handle on everything andget ahead with preventative maintenance,.. you will never need to see Freightliner ever again. Some of the worst service I have ever seen was from Freightliner.

No and mine does the same thing. I have the 150 gal tanks. It will hit dead E,.. I can stab the tank and there is at least 50 gals in each tank.

Its not really a problem for me,.. I'm usually topping off soon after it hits half tank anyway. Only when I run out west do I push the limits and thankful I have the big tanks and a broom stick to stab the tanks with. LOL.

I know with mine once I get to half tank,.. I can push another 650 - 700 miles out of it easily before I should get really concerned.

I was trying to stay on point about the risk with Detroits built in the 03-04 range, but yeah you're right on with that comment about authorized dealers. Thing is Paccar dealers aren't much better than Freightliner as that goes. They just have nicer driver lounges as a rule.

I dont want to deal with any of that anymore. Especially sitting in a drivers lounge listening to other drivers piss and moan about everything. I'm sorry,.. but I find all of that so depressing. Its like they have no ambition to aspire to anything better.

I look for small shops now. I ask one question,.. can it be fixed today? Simple question,.. yes or no? If no,.. I call a cab and head to a hotel/motel. Shower, order some chinese and if the pool is clean I'll take a swim. May as well enjoy myself if I cant keep the wheels rolling. No point in being miserable in a drivers lounge.
