2009 isx cummins randomly shuts off

    Got 2009 isx starts and runs sometimes. The reason why it won't start seems to be fuel. Primary fuel pump will turn on occasionally when the key is first turned on. Sometimes it won't. We've checked fuses and wiggled wiring harnesses. One minute it will fire up and you can move it across the yard and then suddenly the engine will stall. The next it'll just crank over. When it does fire up tho, we've noticed the temperature gauge in the cluster reads operating temp. When it just turns over and doesn't start up, temp gauge reads zero.

    Check unswitched and key switch power to ECM. If in doubt run an overlay to ECM (your own power/ground wires directly from battery). If problem still exists it's more than likely a bad ECM. Sometimes when engine is keyed on you can tap ECM with a small wrench and you'll hear things cycling (lift pump most specifically) that's s sure sign of a bad ECM
