Hello guys! First post here. I've been driving for 5 years. I'm slowly jumping into being an owner op. I found a truck. It's a 2014 Mack CXU 613 w/ a sleeper, 450k miles, auto, good condition, will need new tires on the back. The dealer is asking $40k. Whats your take on this? Fair price or not so much?

Also, I will be financing my purchase. I want to put $8k-$10k down. I submitted a credit app through the dealer over the weekend. They were quite hesitant to talk about APR's. My credit is very good. No marks on it, at all. After some pushing they said the APR is usually in the "12% range, because a truck is a higher risk to the lender than a used car". 12%...... that seems very high to me. I was expecting something in the 7%-8% range. What has been your experience with used truck financing?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jake

Try to find someone else to finance, 14s r good, 15s are better made the engine and def better, late model 14s if so if good credit why put anything down, just get the loan and then pay the bank

I'm gonna know later today what terms the bank came up with. If it's something crazy I'll be looking for another lender. I want to put money down to keep the payments in a so called "sweet spot". I don't want to go crazy with expenses at the beginning. Do you know of any good financial institutions that finances trucks for first time owner ops?

There is so much information on here. You have to want to look for it.

    Few questions.

    What motor and trans combination?

If it happens to be an Mp8 and Mdrive. Well be ready..... you need to see if and when the injector cups have been replaced. Also has the fan clutch been replaced?

    Now this is my opinion.

For a first truck stay away from an automatic Volvo or Mack. To replace the transmission is 15k alone.

    Also Volvo D13 = Mp8 / Ishift = Mdrive.

I personally like Mack trucks, but a year or two newer has the better emissions system as they figured it out more.
    Also 12% interest is insane!
    5% is high.
Heck my visa card is only 8.9%.

It is the MP8 with Mdrive. No info on the injector cups, sadly. When it's time I'll do it myself.

Personally I can drive anything and everything. 13, 18, 8LL- it doesn't matter. This truck is being purchased for 70% local work. When I put a driver in it last thing I need is a burnt clutch or a ginded down transmission from a new guy driving in traffic.

It gets better. With no negative marks and a 760 FICO they're quoting me 12.6% APR for 36 months. I told them to beat it. I'm shopping around for my own financing. The dealer claims the APR is so high due to the truck being commercial equipment with a high default rate... personally, I think they're upselling the rate to make more on the back end. I'm calling the local credit union and wells Fargo today to ask about financing.

3k in tools not including a way to calibrate the injectors. Vcads or the Mack equalivalant isnt cheap. Vcads will be needed for Mdrive diagnostics as well.

Alot of money to tie up in tools for 1 truck
On top of buying a truck. As new owner operator you have to pick your battles.

    Just my 2 cents

I’m driving a 2015 mack mp8 with mdrive 400k on it and only motor issue Ive had so far is the clutch fan went out twice and check engine light likes to come on but when hooked up to computer shows no faults.Overall its a pretty good truck pulls good but I personally wouldnt buy a mack for otr cause the support isnt there meaning dealers and parts like other brands.I live in eastern pa so we have alot of mack dealers nearby just my two cents.
