I just recently bought this W990, and the hood is extremely hard to open, having to go back and forth, from one side to the other, prying up, I did buy this from Kenworth, and they are not giving me any help! Salesman at one location, and the truck at another! Thought I’d do better buying from an actual dealership, in respects to condition, boy was I wrong!
Was told this truck was a paccar lease return, and has been gone through, and was 100%! Well, that was far from the truth! Now my fault for buying this truck from pictures, with a salesman at one location, and driving to pick up at another,
Things I’ve found wrong
DPF high ash content, need service immediately
Tire pressure monitor fault, seek service
Windshield water in-op
Bunk ac in-op
Running light on passenger side headlight in-op (not a bulb)
Front end bounces
Both mirrors dance around, making it hard to see
And more
Now the dealership, did finally agree to replace the DPF, and fix the tire pressure monitor fault, DPF changed, and now they keep saying they will call me on other, but still have not heard from them!
Now I have fixed a couple of issues, but I can’t find why this hood is so hard to open, any suggestions?

The hood and washer seems to be a common issue. We have a customer that has two of them, but they haven’t asked for us to look at those things.
I suspect the hood is a little bit out of alignment.
Maybe @Goodysnap has some ideas.crzyjarmans and Tall Mike Thank this. -
Grease the hood stops and hood hinges, if that does no good then new springs. I’ve owned one , it is a #### heavy hood.

The hood rests are adjustable. The hood is hard to open because the rests are not in alignment with the hood or vice versa.
Adding grease to the stops can make it keep from sticking and easier to open, but the permanent fix is to get everything aligned correctly.
Adding a color grease can leave a transfer mark to tell how tight the contact pattern is to see which way you need to adjust.Oldman83, Oxbow, crzyjarmans and 2 others Thank this. -
I added some white lithium grease, to the contact points, and greased the zeros, seemed to help a littlelarry2903 Thanks this.

Ya, I did the grease thing, helped a little, the rest is beyond my capabilities of aligning, so I’ll have to have a shop check that out

How many shirts did you destroy ?
I was running out of shirts that dd not have a grease stripe.
Socks worked well with zip ties.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
Yeah that hood is a beast to flip. I used to use grease to help with it not getting stuck. I definitely can’t pull it over from the front. Gotta lift from driver side and hold the mudflap so she don’t go flying over
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Mine was adjusted, thought that was the issue also, was out just a bit. Adjustment didn’t help, that hood is a beast.
