220 Classic Cars and Trucks auctioned in Casper Wyoming

Oh oh, looks like another Lambrecht auction, where money flows like beer at a Brewers game and common sense is nowhere to be found. This "VanderBrink" has no conscience whatsoever. That Lambrecht auction will go down in history as the biggest gouging blunder of all time perpetrated by the auction hype. Good people caught up in the hype spending 5 figures on rust buckets. I read divorces spiked after that. The classic car hobby has been reduced to a greedy, money making entity that only a few can afford today. A stark difference from when this person began collecting, when most gotten for nothing. I realize, the auction company is merely providing a service, but a clearer indicator of where our world is at, isn't available. Terrible to say, they will probably lose their shirt, and most will go to the grinder anyway. It's a bad time to sell a collection of anything.

 

Actual not. There are only a small % of car folks that show up at the high end or big hyped auctions. The deep pocket ones that bid on emotion and sport. The other 98% keep it real. Classic car prices are still fair with many of them going for very affordable prices. I have 20 various ones of different makes. From 1958 to 1984. All but 6 of them run and are driven often. Out of those 6 are completely original and only 4 have been repainted. Truly None are worth more than $40,000 at auction, but at auction a person with deep pockets can go stupid. To a guy on the street this cars wont go that high.
If someone can get a bank loan to buy a new $85,000 plastic data collection capsule on wheels they can for something really worth that.

 

With all these folks paying almost $100,000 for a car that is painted a nice shade of shiny primer gray, I think $40,000 for a classic in the real deal gray primer is affordable. I find it so funny. Most of those folks probably woulda shunned us youngsters back in the days when having an old muscle car that ran like lightning but was cruising around town in primer grey as poor white trash. But now that is a “vogue” look to have.

 

Yeah but they can finance that $100k for 7 years and don’t have the $40k to buy an old classic with cash.

 

Yep. But in 7 years that 100k car will be worth nothing because it will be full of non repairable gremlins and crappy trade-in offers. The classic will still be worth 40k.

A classic is also in many cases more than a car. It is an investment and more importantly It is equity in your estate. We have taken out a few bank loans over the years and used both our ‘65’s for caladeral. Bank gave us 105k against the Galaxie and 85k against the GTO at two different times over the years.
