I have a 25 year old misdemeanor theft on my record and wondered if I'm just wasting my time trying to get a truck job? Does anyone out there have this on their record or know anyone who does? From what I've read, it seems like it's the worst offense ever. It looks like even murderers would be more likely to get hired. Drug addicts and so on are more forgiven. I asked a lawyer if it could get it expunged and he said no because it was listed as a theft. And on top of that it was never about stealing. I was holding some things from a woman and told her I would give them back when she paid me what she owed me.

So what companies should I apply to? And on top of that I'd need training as well.

In most cases you won't even have to mention it on the applications.
    Read the questions carefully.
    Have you 'EVER' been convicted/cited.
    In the last 10yrs
    In the last 7
    In the last 5
    In the last 3
See where I'm going with this?
Different company applications ask differently. Some don't even ask about misdemeanors.
    Just be honest.
Then during the usual follow up phone interview keep your mouth shut(lol)
    Don't volunteer any info.

    Tell us where you are.
Some companies ask if you have been arrested, be honest background checks through ncic will show everything.

There are actually services that will do a thorough background check for you and give you the information...for a small fee. I've done it before I just can't remember what service I used. A google search should give you some names.
