Don’t all carriers have that with eld’s??

 

Someone said they are going to sue KLLM or the truck stop....they are not the ones that killed her.

 

The truck location was not in question, just her physical whereabouts.

My husband and I have always had a rule about touching base in some way every 12 hours. This applied when he was in the military and now that he's trucking. If one of us hasn't heard something from the other in 24 hours, we know there's a problem.

This has served us well a couple of times over the years and saved his life once. I was in New Orleans for a girls weekend and he was home alone. He had a medical emergency, was unconscious in our kitchen and didn't respond to a call or text. I sent our neighbor to check in and she called 911 immediately. (turned out he needed immediate intestinal surgery). Have a system in place with someone who can take action on your behalf within preset parameters.

 

Also.... Have a medical power of attorney in place with a trusted love one. This allows them to authorize surgery etc on your behalf in the event you aren't mentally able.

I was able to send a copy of my POA for my husband and authorize everything via phone as I was getting on the plane to go to him. There was no waiting or guessing about what to do or insurance etc.

 

Your Husband was in the military and able to contact you every 12 hours?

 

Most of the time, depending on where he was. Usually within 24 hours. Email or two second text message is not difficult - not cheap around the world, but international SIM cards make things much simpler.

Downrange in an active theater is a different story certainly, but that's not an entire career location
