yes in the west the states want you to spread the weight over both length and width(wider axles). That is why generally quad axle trailers have reduced axle weight potential out west. In the eastern part of the us - they want to reduce over all length and encourage more axles closer together.

CA used to insist that trailer and booster must scale equal within 1000#. I dont know if that is still the case but that was why our Aspen 9 axle sets were trailer trunioned to a air ride booster and we had to shim the booster to equalize the weights if going through CA. and we were a BC outfit that did a lot of I-5.

We just got an XL 13 axle single drop. Looking forward to those 17.5 tires this summer.

If it's in the yard tomorrow. You're on! We have three of them. The other two are 11 axle sets. They look like an RGN but aren't detachable. Hence a single drop....

    cke and stwik Thank this.

see i always think of a drop/step deck as single drop. ive seen a few oilfield spec steps, tri or quad with 17s.
seems they would be great for long and not high.

ive never pulled 17s, and dont think i would want to.

    cke Thanks this.
