Your slots must be double the size than any I ever used. Cause there ain't no way a hook is going in them.

Maybe we’re not talking about the same thing, I can’t recall running across a winch that wouldn’t accept an 1/8” think flat hook. I can get a strap folded over all the way through most winches. That has to be thicker.
I didn’t realize I had an up close picture that shows what I’m talking about. These winches all have the hook in them. The tail end is on the other side.
Edit: And before anyone asks, that’s not a giant square hay bale.
