I've probably spoken with 10 people i know about Selective Service, they had no clue also. Amongst these 10 is a female college grad, ex militarily, and a mother with 2 sons in high school here in PA. Now if I go to the neighborhood I grew up in in Ny... wouldn't find a soul that could tell me about it. The one person I know personally that was actually aware of it is an Immigrant.

well, former prez Jimmy Carter pardoned the draft dodgers, write him a letter, you'll get your student loan.
(j/k)....
iept school guidence counselors.....most likely more interested in playing pokemon.......spyder7723 Thanks this. -
Ours guided us through school and helped select classes and crap. Nothing to do with finding employment after school, other than posting fliers about job fairs or college visits.

I wouldn't have paid any attention anyway. I didn't want any help; just wanted to get the heck out of that small town and see something. Every now and then, during high school and earlier, I'd see a local guy home on leave with the Navy, in his uniform, and I was in awe; that's what I wanted, to see the world and never look back. That's a reason I was a good OTR driver, because can't stand to be stuck too close to the same zip code day after day & year after year.
We moved to Charleston, SC for awhile when I was kindergarten & elementary school and I'd see the sailors wearing those white uniforms on the beach with cute women and I'd stare. My Mother would fuss and say, "Don't look at that." That made it even more appealing to me.
That's why I like this YouTube video:

Good luck with the I did not know to register, probably not going to find to many that will buy into that story, true or not.spyder7723 Thanks this.

In my day, it was absolute law to register all males I think 18 years old. The Parents should have done it. The Government send you a letter to go down to the Post Office, fill it out simple information and they mail it to the Network that maintains the selective service System.
A month or three ago It was passed a law to mandatory register females 18 and up to the selective service for future cannon fodder replacement in war.
If I am correct the USA is capable of roughly 3 million including recent vets since Desert Storm within 6 months to the front as basic replacement. There is about 20 more million 18 to 26 that will need infantry school as replacement, minimum 6 months, it is expected about 8 million will reject the draft and flee the USA. With the addition of Females this year as law, you can expect roughly 22 millions for infantry school replacements 6 to 12 months prior to the front.
IF the war progesses not in our favor, the USA will open the draft to 26 and up to 45. And place these into positions to support. One example is the IDF special troops that handles the task of finding water that is good enough to service equiptments and refine the water to be really good for all humans on the front. Regardless of age. My deafness does not matter. And once trained in that plus whatever else is part of their military there will be a place for me.
In my Deaf School we opened a Pilot Program as a experiment. ROTC, I think the first three Deaf students have been selected to report for training within the school curriculum of courses etc each day. We would at this time is the beginning of allowing deaf to serve in the US Military in any capacity. And a sea change from pretty much banning deaf from serving at the front. They were however mobilize to work the foundries, Mills and other places where sound levels are extreme and causes normal hearing people to be destroyed after a few months where they require medicine and peace and quiet before being reassessed to either 4F or pernamently sent home to pasture.
There are other Deaf Schools in the USA that are also raising up ROTC. The drills, teaching and so forth within these programs for normal hearing people are converted to accept the deaf people with one simple tool. Sign language. In Israel there are two Regiments, a short Corps that are made up strictly by the deaf going back to their Nation's founding in 1947. Most all Nations reject Deaf people for their military however it wont be the first incidents of having them in war.
If the ROTC is successful and managed to graduate the first three original ROTC Deaf this year or next it will be the United States Military to the uniforms they will be authorized to wear and become part of whatever the US Military assigns them. If we are not successful well a decision will be made to try again with the new school years or scrap the whole program within the Deaf Institutions.Last edited: May 22, 2019

Penalties
What Happens If You Don't Register for Selective Service. If you are required to register and you don't, you will not be eligible for federal student aid, federal job training, or a federal job. You may be prosecuted and face a fine of up to $250,000 and/or jail time of up to five years.
**(My thinking.. if you have already recieved these monies that non registrants are not allowed to partake in, be prepared for a Letter to arrive from Uncle Sam imposing a repayment of overpayment of benefits you have already recieved in your life. One way or another once uncle sam sees one hand doing from the other hand, they will get these monies back from you.
You do have a defense however, In Maryland Garnishment orders that are awarded to the Plaintiff (This case = Uncle Sam) can only garnish paychecks down to 140 dollars net. And cannot garnish or touch social security income like SSI, SSDI and others who are awarded for one problem or another wards of the State.
We have prosecuted properly another person in Civil Court showing they did not pay monies back in small claims. I think it was 2200 dollars so far and the court awarded us the Judgement and gave us instructions how to mail a letter with the court order to that person's employer to begin garnishing whatever the weekly pay of that person down to their last 140.00 which cannot be garnished.
This particular person probably has been prosecuted before and quit her job the moment the employer recieved the letter. A year later we filed a form at taxes in Uncle Sam deducting the 2200 as losses that we cannot hope to recover. A failed Judgment order. I would imagine at that time it probably will go onto this persons credit reporting and so on.
Finally but not least, we ran into the person years later. We forgave that person when she asked us to consider her situation and you cannot get water from a stone. So we let it go.

Selective Service System > Registration > Men 26 and OLDER
What Can You Do if You Did Not Register and are Now 26 or Older?
If you have passed your 26th birthday and are now being denied eligibility for federal student financial aid, federal job training, or federal employment, or are having difficulty obtaining U.S. citizenship because you failed to register, you have the following recourse available to you: explain to the official handling your case (for example, a student financial aid officer) the reasons for your failure to register with Selective Service.
A non-registrant may not be denied any benefit if he can "show by a preponderance of evidence" that his failure to register was not knowing and willful. Offer as much evidence supporting your case, and as much detail, as possible.
You may be asked for an official response from the Selective Service System, which is referred to as a “status information letter.”
What is a Status Information Letter?
A status information letter from Selective Service states the facts surrounding your registration status with the Selective Service System. It states whether or not you are registered with Selective Service and whether or not you were required to register with Selective Service or if you are exempt from the registration requirement.
How to Get a Status Information Letter — Official Response from Selective Service
To find out more about getting an official response from Selective Service regarding your registration status, and the situations when a man does not need a status information letter from Selective Service, see our webpage on STATUS INFORMATION LETTER.
For your convenience, you can download the Request form for Status Information Letter, which includes the directions for completing this form. This document is in a PDF format.

well, certainly many things have changed.....do they still have lunch, recess and nap time..??
i mean c'mon, the JOB of a guidance counsler was to keep you up to date with what we needed to do. our guidence counslers would hold classroom meetings monthly about things we needed to know.
well what's done is done, i don't know how the op can change anything in order to get a student loan -
Hah, High School just had 45 minute lunch. See, our guidance counselors did really have that as their job. Their goal was to make sure your schedule and classes weren't jacked up so you could graduate. You also go to them to get transcripts after. They did help with college applications, I guess, but other than that... Not much else.
