I knew a guy that was drafted and for some reason they didn't take him when he reported. He really wanted to go though. He went home an registered his disabled brother that had, I think, cerebral palsy and was wheel chair bound. His brother received his draft notice, so he went in his place and had no problem after that. Wouldn't be able to get away with that these days.
Another guy I served with didn't qualify for the Navy, but his buddy did. His buddy died before reporting from a heart attack I think it was. He took his paperwork package and went in his place and made a career in the Navy.

in that amount of time, the guidence counslers actually worked...

the rest of the day, they were "out to lunch"....!!!

i know things change.......to me, sad state of affairs, especially when there isn't any improvment over the old ways.

glad i went to school and gradumacated when i did.......cuz i nose my ABD's......

I didn't know until years later, when some of my high school buddies did it, but you could go to the draft board and volunteer to be drafted. Then you'd be on your way in a few days.

You caught me. It's my life goal to make this thread and convince you all to believe I didn't knowingly dodge the Selective Service. A side note of me looking for assistance has become the main focus.

Like I said, never heard of Selective Service until a few weeks ago. Things like that weren't a topic of discussion in my 20+ years of living in the Bronx. While I went to a good high school and was in advanced placement courses things happened and I was expelled at 16 and I got my GED at 17 while on trial to appease the court. School/college/loans hasn't crossed my mind until very recently and here I am asking for suggestions on the best school or companies given my circumstances.
