East Texas is a haven for patent troll lawsuits and class action lawsuits. Remember that Scene in Bruno where he was making out with another guy and the crowd was losing their minds? That was filmed in Texarkana.

 

So a malingerer looking for an easy retirement plan finds a jury that believes a lawyer when he tells them they're going to change an industry.

Some people have asked me why I lost faith in our justice system after working in the legal industry for a decade.

 

What a f'kn joke.

 

The plaintiff should have immediately settled at like 5 million. As it is it is doubtful he will see any money with the litigation going on.

 

1st verdict was for $101 million dollars, reduced to, oh my $33 million on appeal. And It will get further reduced on subsequent appeals. With any kind of luck they will get to a court that will set aside the judgement completely. But the defendant, FTS trucking has already filed for bankruptcy, probably with this as one of the causes.
That is why we should care about this sort of thing. You are minding your own business, working at a company like FTS, then your boss comes in and says they are closing the doors in 2 weeks, or maybe immediately. Your life gets upended because of this legal runaway train.
