I have a 95 3406 5ek with 890,000 miles no engine history except the guy said the bottom was done. Truck sounds and runs great

contemplating or trading it for 07 c15 with twin turbos and about 290,000 miles on the engine

my question is would this be a bad trade I have a sleeper looking for a day cab and I have read mixed reviews on the engine

Might be, might not be. I wouldn't let the engine be the sole decider on trading the truck or not.

Why would you want to trade ? Mileage, Year, or because it has 2 turbos ? I wouldn’t do it. I had a 94 5EK series with a good tune, and got 7 mpg all day long.

It has a wet line kit I could use and is a day cab and I’m planning to do local. I have to see the truck first. My truck is just been sitting waiting to have enough for my authority if I got that other one I could lease on somewhere that would be the only reason. I do like my truck and the engine haven’t had a chance to haul a load with it. The guy I got it from said it hauled really well

Maybe 290000 since engine rebuild, but a 2007 probably has a million and a half. 2007 is mnx I think, that's the last year cat made a decent engine. I'd look the truck over really good before making a trade. Both are good engines. The engine you have now is a lot less complicated, the acert has more stuff to go wrong.

Thank you, my engine looks much simpler. The ecm and dash both read 10,000 hours and some change with the 290.000 I’m gonna check it out this week

I wouldn't do it simply because the 5EK is ELD exempt.

    IMO, I'd stick with the 5EK. CAT's 60 Series.

Besides expensive parts, if built right and not tuned ridiculously, they are simple, effective, long lasting.

Wet kits aren't that expensive, twin turbo's are

    What’s in your 5Ek now, 435, 500, 550 ?

I’m curious why you haven’t put your current truck to work. Are just waiting on authority?
With a 1995, are certain you will be able ‘to sign
on’ with somebody? Some outfits have a ‘maximum age’ for owner operators they work with.
