I`v leased my box truck to a local trucking company hauling anything from a couple of pallets to single boxes. The commision is 50% and 10% fuel surcharge of the total load. Does this sound like a fair deal? I havent recieved my paycheck and am yet to be shown a copy of a freight charge so dont know how much i will be making. Let me me know what you think . Thanx.
50/50% split?

sounds a little low. Usually for a straight truck, the truck gets 76% of the freight revenue, all of the fuel surcharge, and reimbursed for tolls. That being said, I have known some trucking companies who get really fantastic rates, and 50% of their gross would still be good money.

Joe is correct, that company makes money off of you leasing their truck and 50/50 is low, you do all the work. 75% around there is good.
They only time i would do 50/50 say if i owned a truck and i had another person drive the truck for me. That driver doesn't have a lease of have to worry about the truck. -
If they want a 50/50 split on the freight, then ask the company if they're going to do a 50/50 split on your expenses

great advice. thanks

WHOA!!! 50% Thats LOW. The norm is around 76% to even as high as 88% + 100% of FS.

I can't imagine anyone who owns a truck being willing to do a 50/50 split. Everyone else here is right you should get at least 74% and 100% of the fuel money hence why they call it a fuel surcharge it is to pay for the fuel. Sorry but 50/50 sounds to me like your getting screwed

The percentages tell you nothing, all you can do is guess. Find out what the 100% is before making a decision, nothing from nothing is still nothing, may be paying all tolls, critical timed moves, more money per mile,a great surcharge. You want to always know what the loads pay first, then decide on the percent and other factors when you do the deal. Maybe they have almost no deadheading and keep you loaded all miles or pay you something per mile deadheading. Alot of factors, but in the end money matters, not the percent, unless the money and bennies are there.
