How do i deal with this problem? My authority is less than 6 months old and it seems like every company i call for a load wants my authority to be atleast 6 months old? This is keeping me up nights...:biggrin_25513: Who can I call for work I need at least the $850 a month for the insurance. I really have called around 15 places and they keep telling me the same thing. I have 5 years of company driving exp. I have a 53" dry van.

second time I've hear this recently and I've NEVER heard of it before that. Disturbing to say the least.

just keep calling, some of them will load ya and when you find them you will just have to stick with them. Are you set up with landstar as an approved carrier? I don't think they require that

I use brokers off of Internet Truckstop, have only had 2 require 6 months in operation. On was a small brokerage the other was CRST. Other than that I have never had a problem. I will have been operation for 6 months at the end of Sept. I have hauled for about 15 different brokers so far since march. One I use a lot, so much that they have started calling me to haul loads for them that are not posted on internet truckstop.

Have not had a problem making money. I run mostly california, but the brokers are all over the country.

    Good luck.

You are correct they do not, I am set up with them. They charge an additional 1% on every load for "additional insurance" as if the $100,000 policy I have is not enough to cover a load of rebarb LOL!!! Never heard of another brokerage doing that.
I try to avoid the giant companys like them (CH Robinson, UTI, etc) Its my expierence (and opinion) that most of the good rates come from the smaller brokerages companies.

You also have a better chance of not getting paid by the smaller brokerage companys. Ask me how I know that.

I use the credit service provided by Internet Truckstop and have had no problems (knock on wood).
Not getting paid is part of the risk of going into business for yourself, if your going to worry about it, then you should lease on to a company as an owner-operator.

Hi all fellow truckers, I will be getting my authority soon and just recieved my CDL. I plan on calling some brokers off of the load boards before I get my authority to make sure that they wouldnt care if it is new or not, but has anyone (broker) said anything about a CDL being under 6 months old?:biggrin_2556:

None have ever asked. I had mine for about 2 months before I started. I hadnt had a CDL in 10 years and had not drivin in as much. I would not say anything about being a new driver. Just call them up and tell them you want the load and that you need to be set up with them (contract and insurance certificate) and thats it.
