    Check Frank Allegre Trucking and Apex also. They're dry bulk carriers and with your Dad's tanker background they'll probably be interested.
    A lot of the agricultural hauling in California is seasonal. If you're lucky you'll work seven months but then you'll probably be laid off. The good news is, California pays pretty high unemployment.
