It really depends on how your dispatch works... If they can keep you moving without alot of waiting around for dispatch or dwell time at shippers and recievers I would opt for burning my 70 as fast as possible... Especially if you can make it work to do most of your 34s at home.

if you're fresh you can do a lot of damage in a month with just 8.5 hours a day, stay rolling and running recap for 30 days straight. a whole lot more $$$ damage than you could taking a 34 every week, at the end of the month it's almost a week off. only time I go over 8.5 hours in a day is if the loads are good enough to string together and the gross total will justify the wasted day to fit them all in. if you have the ability to make your own schedule, 8.5 hours/day, done at night isn't even work :binky:

The overwhelming majority OTR Drivers do not take 34's at home. If you get home every Friday and have weekends off, there is no need to manage your clock. Burn through your 14 in 5 days.

Yes I know that, but some companies can make it work that way. Thats how my company dispatches... Run from the rookies to the Midwest and back in 5 to 8 days, reset at home, then do it all over again. Average about 3700 miles every 7 to 10 days. I usually would shoot for between 11k amd 12.5k miles a month, but if I wanted to run hard I could get 13.5k to 14.5k miles every month... But that gets exhausting very quickly.

I stay out for a minimum of 8 weeks at a shot BY CHOICE. That is why I choose to run the way I do.

I rarely bump my 70 anymore. When I do it’s usually in 5.5 days. End results the same mileage wise. I do get a 34 hr break in whenever possible. Seldom have to add up hrs for recap. The rare occasion, I need hours. Seems to help if the first couple days are long ones. Nothing’s worse than using recap, and only picking up a few hrs.

That is why I do this.....ON PURPOSE!

I have the ability to run recaps if I choose. My first 3 days on a fresh clock will determine if I want to roll and roll.... or take a 34. If I get a 2100 mile pre plan with an open pick up and delivery time..... Ill run that first 3 1/2 days like my aasss is on fire....... probably do a reset within 7 days. But.... Most of my loads have Scheduled p/u- del times and dates. My Company is cognizant of that and running 450-520 miles per day gets it done on recaps.

BTW.....I DO NOT do short haul, none of that 2 stops per day and endless dock time......1100-2000 mile long haul is the norm. Makes running recaps real easy.

That's what I had my last 3 years OTR. It was nice, plenty of miles and I usually got to reset at home.
