Looking at purchasing a k100 i like the truck alot but it has no front bbrakes or power steering. How hard would it be to put it on truck? Im guessing i would need pump, new steering gear and lines with resivoir, besides this is this a costly conversion? And would i need a steering box off a cabover and not a conventional?
Any help would be great
77' kw k100 adding power steering

My $20 would be, leave it arm strong and leave the brakes off.
truckon Thanks this. -
I'm guessing power steering was an option back in '77 so it can probably be done. Might need to have some fab work done to mount all the components.

Hello again. The box does not care. I put Sheppard p/s from a c/o Freightliner on a 400 White. Also saw some one install a used box on a c/o Freightliner. The steering wheel and the ones on the ground turned in opposite directions, there are right and left hand threaded screws. Replaced air steering units with hydraulic p/s on conv. IHC's in 1986. Everything was new except factory reman boxes. Parts cost around $2200 per truck. If the truck did not come with front brakes they are not required by law but I am almost sure everything did by 74 or 75. The way you can find trucks look for a donor. If the box does not bolt up to the frame it can be a big hassel.

Northern I just put that dating with the first trailers with anti-lock brakes. That was the 721 system which was discontinued because 7 too 1 they would fail. Ol Blue is a 71 with front brakes but it has an on off switch similar to a p/d switch it is labeled wet/dry. I am not sure what year they were mandatory but if the truck had them factory installed it was illegal to remove them. Some trucks, Macks, only had holes in the frame for air line bulkhead fittings if it came with front brakes. Smart Barney put them out of service for brakes out of specifications on two wheels.
