Sitting home drawing unemployment and worrying about when that runs out.
Those drivers have a cdl, so get a job.

We have a tour bus company not too far from my house. A huge sign outside saying "We are back open for business". Their claim to fame is mostly taking little old ladies up to the casinos or shopping in Canada.
Admittedly I tend to only drive by on the weekends but their lot is still full of buses.

Now a mile down the road there is a garbage company begging for help, even offering to train to get a CDL and hiring 0 experience. Seems to me there would be enough drivers for them if the state would stop extending unemployment and even adding on extra so most make more money sitting around instead of working....

Do buses and tractor-trailers fall under the same license class in the US? Up here its a different license and they'd only be qualified to drive a straight truck with just a class 2 license.

Most likely those are class B jobs. Class A jobs are with a trailer over 10,000 lbs. There are class B jobs available though. Schools are opening up, getting to be snow plow season, garbage companies, home delivery of appliances, etc. There are a lot of class B jobs around here.

True. There's a lot of work out there for someone willing to work.

There's some former bus drivers on this forum that can give good answers.
I think @ZVar is correct though.
Easy to upgrade to Class-A and many trucking companies that have their own cdl school will do that.
Also many Class-B box truck jobs available for local and OTR.

    AModelCat Thanks this.

The tricky part is they’ll be competing with other CDL holders for jobs(and possibly at much lower wages) than what they made driving a motor coach.

    bryan21384 and bzinger Thank this.

Some are Class A or B the same as a tractor trailer but depending on where you live a passenger endorsement is required. If I wanted to I could go get a passenger endorsement on my Class A license from the school where I got my training and it would only cost me $50 bucks. In Boston the MBTA is always hiring but they have a high turnover.

    bryan21384 and ZVar Thank this.
