I bought a 1997 western star 4900 (I think) and the rear suspension is just 4 air bags and torsion bars. Trying to replace the bags and freightliner says it's not the original suspension. Sent me the wrong bags. They were way too big. has anyone heard of such a rear set up or can steer me toward someone that knows anything? Thanks

Could literally be anything under there. You'll need to post some pictures of the suspension parts and we can point you in the right direction.
I'm suspecting it is likely Airliner, Neway or Hendrickson but anything is possible given the truck's age. -
Thank you, I will post pics shortly
RocketyMan Thanks this. -

Figured it out. It's a neway suspension. Got the correct bags. New leveling valve. Good to go.

"Neway" suspension? Interesting.
Well thank you for the update and reporting back! -
Most WS had Neway suspensions. The interesting thing, starting in 1997, the redesigned Integral cabs had one or two airbags 3/4 way back, 1998 had them moved back farther. Finally in 1999 they made the final change. I think they were moved all the way back. It’s been a long time. I may be wrong about the exact designs, but definitely remember the 3 different set ups, before they stuck with the last one.
