I ground tested the fan stat wire but still no fan activation.

Pretty obvious a sensor isn't working. Are you actually overheating ? Getting derated ? Blowing antifreeze ?
-
I agree with Pinner, The sensor is probably reading its just stuck in-range and it is not reading when the temperature gets to the fan on mode. If it was a wiring issue it would throw a check engine light on. Change out the sensor and try from there, its the two wire sensor located on the bottom of the termostat housing.
Good luck!Junk Yard Dogg Thanks this. -
I want to know if the engine is actually overheating. Some people just worry too much.
-
If you unplug the sensor in the thermostat housing it will set the ecm to a default temp of 194 deg and turn the fan on. If so you may have an issue with the temp sensor its self
Junk Yard Dogg Thanks this. -
Thanks guys I was checking the wrong sensor, I was checking the top sensor. I will check tomorrow and report.

Junk yard dog, youve got a pm.

ok I don't have a 2 wire sensor. In my thermostat housing I have a alarm stat, temp sender for the temp gauge and coolant temp sensor. Peterbilt couldn't or wouldn't tell me if the ECM controls the fan solenoid in a 98 c-12. They said it might be controlled by the coolant temp sensor, the 3 wire probe.
