I plan to ride my GoldWing from Edmonton to Whitehorse, come back thru Smithers BC. Anyone willing to share road information? Any gravel stretches? All paved or hardtop? Major road construction?
I've done a number of trips across the Prairies to Ontario, and always found it enjoyable to talk on CB. Hope to catch some of you on the Whitehorse trip. Thanks!

There WILL be road construction. That's a given on the alska and cassiar hiways. Both are a mix of pavement and chipseal. I know they have plans to reseal a couple sections of the cassiar this summer. The alaska hiway is more bike friendly(more fuel stops) where as the cassiar is an absolutely beautiful drive. Be forewarned... alot of stateside trucks run the cassiar and don't like to move over, even for other trucks.(pet peeve of mine) there are ore trucks to contend with and it seems ALOT of the truckers don't like to slow down when they meet oncomers. You WILL get dusted and showered with rocks. BUT... the drive is worth it! good luck!

I just ran Edm to Whitehorse and back 3 weeks ago, DO NOT drive your bike in anything but perfect visibility, the very first thing youll notice is wildlife all over the roads like you've never seen before, and the birds... I hit about 10 of them all said and done, they aint as scared of vehicals and fy right in front of them, be prepared for that. I dont know how much that effects a bike.

From fort nelson to laird hotspings is crazy twisty hilly and does have fallen rock here and there mostly on the edges f the road. no gravel sections anywhere unless in a const. zone. your gonna wanna stop in laird hotsprings, bring a bathing suit, also toad river has a gas station/restaurant on the left there where the ceiling of the entire place is covered in millions of baseball caps, watson lake has signpost forrest: http://youtu.be/0tbxUPgkx-4 Thats my video i made of it. When in whitehorse id suggest staying at the "airport chalet" awesome atmosphere nice lounge/bar and very very good food. its also the quote truckstop endquote of the town.

there was a bridge in between watson lake and whitehorse that had a super rough section on the one side of it, watson lake scale warned me while i was getting my permits, id suggest stopping there to ask, also once in the yukon when they put up bump signs about potholes.... THEY MEAN IT. they have some real nasty buggers. As for down to smithers I dont know im sure somone else can give u the details on that

hope this helps, I begged for the load as we never go there and had the time of my life, enjoy your trip and drive safe

can't comment on the road conditions as haven't been up there since the early 90's but everybody should go up there once in there life. Hotels are very expensive and book up fast so plan your stops ahead of time and take lots of pictures.
