No vacuum. Need to look into who around me would have one. Living in the sticks sucks. Might have to buy one.

"Then get a filter drier with a sight glass in the liquid line to determine when the system is full." In place of the one I already have on against the fire wall?

Never thought about an orifice tube in the bed evaporator. Would that cause the low line and dryer to freeze up?

Its not as bad as you think if you had alot of powered compressor parts in system you would have locked up the new comp. in less than a day, you have a temp sen. inside the heater a/c box under dash that must work to turn off a/c comp. when lines start to frez. up, replace it then be sure comp. is turning off then back on in a short time to melt ice inside evp. box, You can buy a air powered vac. pump at auto parts store an run it off your tire air up line you hook to your trailer line.

That would explain it not reading on the low pressure gauge. I thought maybe it was vacuum somewhere.
Thinking maybe since the low line wasn't showing a pressure and was freezing then the evaporator might be plugged along with the tube, I did flush it out though. Maybe it went bad I don't know.
Also when I'm putting in the freon the gauge will show it going in, but when the can is getting low te gauge starts working its way down and never shows me what it on that line. Every can does the same, needle moves up when it's going in and starts going down when the can is getting lower and lower.

"you have a temp sen. inside the heater a/c box under dash that must work to turn off a/c comp" Name of the sensor? Also "inside heater a/c box under dash" behind anything? Like the ac switches or by the blower motor?
Hasn't blown the new comp yet, been a month with this problem though.

If it is in the liquid line (from the condenser to the evaporator) and already has a sight glass get the same one. If it doesn't have a sight glass, get one that does.

If the thing on the firewall is an aluminum tank in the low pressure line (between the evaporator and compressor), it is called an accumulator. A sight glass won't help you there.

You can get pretty close on a CCOT system by charging it while your hand is on the outlet pipe of the evaporator. The instant the line gets suddenly very cold, you have enough.

Harbor Freight sells gauge sets and vacumn pumps. I'd recommend getting both if you plan to do much of your own AC work. For less than three hundred bucks, you'll have everything you need to service your own AC.

"Every can does the same, needle moves up when it's going in and starts going down when the can is getting lower and lower."

If you're using one of the can adapters that has a gauge, you have to let go of the trigger in order for it to read the pressure.

IF you take off the cover of a/c box under pass. side of dash you can look for dirt and trash in your a/c heater box an clean them, 2 wires will lead you to temp. control switch inside or on top of box with the probe that tell a/c comp. when to turn off to melt off ice, not sure the one your year truck has

I'm using the triple hose gauge. High pressure, low and freon hose.
