The term is Bombogenesis. A meteroligical term for a storm system that decreases a great deal of pressure in a short time, say 24 hours.

The problem is how far west will this nor'easter travel. If it comes too far west this will become a storm to remember as it paralyzes the east coast north of Richmond. You do not want to be in Nova Scotia for this one.

The last storm I remember was in 93' we took I think 49 inches in our back yard in 24 hours and when the winds quit howling 4 days later the snow drifted covering two story houses and telephone poles entirely.

About 5 days after that I managed a twenty mile trip towards I-70 between 60 plus feet walls of snow 20 feet apart behind a front end loader. Then found the New Market Interstate covered in two plus feet of slush, essentially closed. That is where those big michelin tires paid off going to the 76 in Frederick. What was really outrageous was I was in a old style classic car with a big V8 and a solid rear axle. For once it did well.

I think the biggest benefit to such a storm was the quiet for the 5 days it raged. Once the house was covered except the fireplace and chimney it got really nice and quiet. It was awesome not to have to hear the noisy city.
