I get alot of oil residue out of my tanks sometimes but so does my buddies truck. i see it in alot of other trucks. The water that comes out is never just plain water. people always quick to say you have bad air compressor. Put a new one in and you gonna have some oil residue. When i change filter, i always clean out a bunch of gunk

Most of the time if you have oil in the compressor suction tube you have compressor trouble esp with a 12.7 Detroit.

That said @Goodysnap is correct on the proper test method

Another thing to consider is when running down the road under load the compressor is taking boost from engine doubling the oil discharge. I would say your due for a compressor. Now that has been said. The compressors lately (reman) have had issues right out of box. I went through 3 before I got one that didn't slobber oil !!

I second that on reman pumping oil especially on Bendix TU-FLO 550 and 750. Cores are getting old. Also, less air leaks you have the better it is on your whole system. If it ain't compressing air it won't be pushing oil.

    SAR Thanks this.

How do I know if it’s coming from engine. On the first reply guy told me to isolate compressor from engine by disconnecting air intake to compressor and checking if it spats oil. I got a few splattering spots that shot kinda thick . But then didn’t do it much .
