No big brake pedal? KW was known for that big brake pedal. That cracked steering wheel may indicate "Armstrong Steering",,btw, I read, the 6-71"T" was used in the marine industry, and the turbo added about 50 hp. Also, and I never knew this, but the blower( supercharger) on a Detroit did not "supercharge" the motor, it was a blower to blow the exhaust gases out faster, like an expansion chamber on a 2 cycle dirtbike, which made it kind of more efficient.

    cke and baha Thank this.

The supercharger pressurizes the air going into the engine through the lower area (there is no intake valve only an intake port low in the cylinder wall) which will blow the exhaust out the valve. the exhaust valve is open only when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke and closes as the top piston ring closes the intake port the cycle is then compression up to injection and power down to the opening of the intake port at the bottom again.
Hence a 2 stroke diesel engine.
The added pressure bleeding into the crankcase is why a detroit 2 stroke is almost impossible to stop leaking oil.

Whoa, a D10. The biggest dozer I ran was a D8, and I thought that was big. I've pulled big machines, what kind of power did these little Volvos run? I read, these D10's weigh 190,000lbs!!!

truckdad, lynchy and cke Thank this.

    1982 transformer.jpg
    This was 1982
She was a 1980 Star with a hot big cam 350, 5 and 4 trans 529 gears with 55k Hendrickson suspension 50 ton Garwood winch.
That transformer was 220k and we jack and rolled it on and off the 16,16,8 trailers that were the largest at the time in SK, MB, or northern ON.
I personally hauled a 275k transformer (no pics) 5.5 miles from a rail siding to a substation with this setup.

We're both 50+ so we only work when the mood strikes us. Flash is always ready to roll, me not so much anymore.

Concrete driver was here looking at the truck one day and saw it- "wow, that's old school bro"
The first truck I ever drove had one and the last truck I'll ever drive has one. Seems fitting.
I rebuilt it last weekend- take it apart, clean, lube barrel, done. No ET/SIS or Insite needed.

clausland, Tug Toy, cke and 2 others Thank this.
