    Full disclosure:
I’m coming from Central Transport(lol I know). I had mostly good equipment despite the jokes(mostly well deserved). FYI City drivers get newer trailers like 2018+ . The forklifts will always be horrid. But I always made out decent. I was a rookie driver and I wasn’t laid off even during Corona. I made 45-50hrs during slower seasons and 50+ during peak season and the opportunity to run Linehaul on the weekends for extra money.

The biggest issues I have are having to delivery freight that is damaged beyond belief and they don’t have any 401K matching or ESOP.

In regards to ABF, I have an interview coming up and I’m wondering if I should even bother ?

    Primary points of concern...

    1. Lay offs
    2. Hours
    3. Being on Call

From what I can gather since it’s Union you have to cycle through lay offs, being on call and low hours the first couple years and I can’t do that financially? Obviously, I have savings but I’d rather not blow them every year.

Should I just apply to Estes, Fed Ex etc ?

I guess, but my first weeks as a rookie driver in P & D was a blur filled with horror and despair that truck driving school can’t quite prepare you for heh.... CTI only pulls 53 with dual axle drive tires. We have 1 40ft lift gate truck for the Charlotte metro area.

SE is good, and I’ll probably apply there and R+ L they both seem to be gainfully employed.

I just wanted to see what was up with ABF? The benefits look extremely good but if I’m only working half the year that’s a forgone conclusion.

Just because other companies don't do layoffs doesn't mean you'll be working every day in the slow season. When it gets slow, they'll just starve you out, letting you call every day to be told there's no work for you.

That being said, no one is slow right now and everyone is understaffed. I wouldn't worry about layoffs this year.
