What a long stressful trip this was. We finally left Deming NM around 1pm Sunday. I must say, I-10 was nothing short of a junk yard from Deming to Fort Stockton Tx. I finished driving at 1:30 in the morning on Monday. I had to pull rank on David. Every bridge I went over was nothing but ice. A few of them I slid across. He wanted to start his shift and I told him no, that we will wait until daylight. He said that with the tight schedule we had that we would be late. I said good, I'm going to bed and this truck isn't moving. I guess from the tone of my voice he realized at that moment I was the boss and there was no discussing it.
We got rolling at daybreak yesterday and fought heavy rain all the way to Slidell la where I took over. I fought rain, accidents and high winds all night last night. Early this morning I got a message from dispatch to drop this trailer in wytheville and one of the local guys will deliver it in the morning. We got to wytheville at 10 this morning, dropped the trailer hooked to a Florida load that delivers on Monday, said goodbye to David, then left. I am 12 hours to the house and will be home to spend some well earned time off with my lovely wife. I'm wore out to say the least, but nothing is a better pick me up then a load to the house.
David will pick up his truck on Monday, I pick up my new student on Tuesday on my way up to Richmond, then I'll do this all over again. I'm outta here!

I started training my wife August 21 2013, since that time we have driven 74,000 mi. We all operate under a large amount of stress due to schedules and general life on the road. Going from a relaxed run to a hot just in time kind of load with a beep of the QUALCOMM. Being well rested, to having to catch some ZZZZs on I-40 traveling through OKC. A lack of sleep and being under stress sometimes causes me to say things in a way that would be out of line while sitting at the house. (I said good, I'm going to bed and this truck isn't moving.) LOL that could have been me at that point in time. I find that I don't sugar coat what I say when I'm tired and having to make the smart choice. Team life is challenging, but my wife and I are grateful we can be together and make a living that many would be envious of. Enjoy your home time JB.

My husbae and I thought about doing teams once, but we would probably end up killing each other! LOL
JohnBoy Thanks this. -
Rebel, the absolute best times I had in trucking have been when my wife and I teamed, we too thought it would just be a short tryout and we'd either be at each others throats or filing for divorce! Neither happened and we made some very good coin for several years before she got hurt working and after several months off we had moved and I found an oversize gig so we just put it on the back burner... when the time is right we'll do it again, can't wait for those days!!!
Happy Thanksgiving all, for those out working so we at home can have what we need, thank you and be safe!!!JohnBoy Thanks this. -

Happy Thanksgiving Johnboy. Looking forward to next week and the next 3 months training with you. I am truly blessed to be with a great company and great people as yourself, Don Tucker, Sally Arndt, Bill Walsh, Russell Heaton, Kurtis Jones and others I have yet to meet. Can't wait to meet the rest of the bloggers in our travels. I truly feel that the best is yet to come. Happy Thanksgiving everyone with Abilene. Whose got it better than us? Nobody. Yeah I am a 49er fan since 1971.
