Hello I want to ask how long is the training for a new driver at Abilene Motor Express? Anyone that knows, please let me know. Thanks.

3-6 months depending on your experience skill level. Good company, good equipment, excellent freight and miles. Good luck!!

Thanks for the quick response. One more question... How do they pay you during training? Is it a set amount per week or is it based on mileage? Thanks again.

If you have to do the six months, Stage one is 16cpm, stage 2 (second 3 months) is 20 cpm but either Johnboy or Master Yoda will chime in here unless they are both home for Christmas. I am an Abilene dropout so to speak. I didn't survive my "rookieness" there. You will get good miles so dont worry about the low cpm. Once you get your own truck it jumps to 33cpm and 43 cpm to the northeast ABOVE THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. Good folks over there.

To answer your question, unless you are a refresher, training is 3-6 months. You get paid for all miles run on the truck. Some of us are strictly first
stage trainers, some are second stage trainers, and others are refresher trainers. I am a second stage, sometimes, refresher most of the times trainer. You are not used as a second log book, if it comes to the attention of safety that you are, that trainer is out of the program. You are paid like everyone else, every two weeks. If you need anymore info, either follow the link Cranky posted or just ask here.

I can tell you that Abilene has a great training program, and freight to match almost anyone to their home anywhere... Some of the other Abilene drivers can vouch for my expertise in this field... I would recommend Abilene to anyone starting out. If you can build a strong relationship with your trainer, and driver manager, the community and family environment will ensure your success.

That's a long time to be team driving but I admire their ability to offer such training because it's surely needed these days it seems.
