Hi Jack
What year make and model is the truck/trailer? -
The ABS valve cannot lock your brakes. It is designed to allow air to flow through it unrestricted as brakes are applied, and to dump air to release brake pressure if the system senses a wheel lock up, before closing again so the brakes can re-apply. There isn't anything in the valve that would prevent the brakes from releasing.
If it is leaking air when the service brakes are NOT applied, that means pressure is finding its way into the service brake system other than by way of the foot or hand valve. A good place to start is to make sure you have the red and blue lines properly hooked up (red to red, blue to blue) and not crossed (red-blue, blue-red). Next, disconnect the blue line and supply air to the trailer. Is air bleeding out from the blue gladhand on the front of the trailer?
Edit: Just saw this is more than a week old...so hopefully the OP has resolved the problem by now.
