Hey there, anyone here ever added a carrier to a brokerage after being in business a while? any pros or cons to this?
When you are asked how long your carrier has been in business for does it go by the new Carrier MC# that was added to the Brokerage DOT or does it get "grandfathered in" to the existing Brokerage DOT/MC# start date?

any additional input would be appreciated!

It would go off the new carrier mc.

I went in the opposite order but I would say it’s 10 times harder to go from broker to carrier then carrier to broker.

One good advantage is if you have enough freight to keep your trucks busy. You’ll still have to learn how to run a trucking company though and deal with drivers. It’s no walk in the park.

However, certainly not impossible so if you are well funded start small with just a couple trucks an do that for sixth months and reassess. If all looks good add a couple more and try that for 6 months. I would not recommend starting with 5 to 10 or you could bring down both businesses potentially depending on how big your brokerage is.
