Still on paper but like most will be switching before too long.

    We'll probably be using Omnitracs.

From what I can tell the only thing a driver can do wrong is to forget to switch duty status from line 4 to line 1,2 or 5.

    Am I missing anything obvious?

Anyone who was with a company when they switched from paper were there any growing pains?

It really depends on what features your company purchases with omnitracs. You'll want to verify that your load information is filled in correctly with each move/deadhead. Once driving the system will automatically switch you over once you meet the driving criteria, and you'll have to be sure to approve your logs daily.

Not many pains at all. We use omnitracs too with a MCP200.
If you forget to switch you can edit lines 1,2 and 4 until you get used to it have your compliance dept. on the phone to help walk you through it.
Don't forget to go to the LOAD tab and fill in your load info trlr# load# ect. Its the same as doing it on paper. Its a violation of you don't and dot wants to see it during an inspection.
I really didn't care for it when I first started. Now I could care less, believe it or not you might even like it.

Say your taking your 30 minute break. Some guys would try driving at say 28 minutes thinking the ELD will won't log or notice for 5 minutes of driving. The ELD does know your moving at 28 minutes and will let you drive 2 miles then it will log you started to drive befre you 30 minutes we're up. So you have to wait 30 minutes before moving the truck.

You can see all that stuff. On the main HOS page
    Status tab
Duty status and what time you started that status and current time
Also a duration 00h 28m you can watch it count down your thirty.
Summary tab shows 8,11,14 clocks along with total available hours left on your 70
Graph tab looks like a lot book page and you can see what you need there as well
If you've gone from off duty to sleeper though that duration clock only shows for current duty status.
Easy way to see how much longer till your 10's up is to tap the change button with will take you a different screen will the duty status of your choice.
If your 10 isn't up yet it will show in red letters
5 MORE MINUTES TILL YOUR BREAK IS COMPLETE.
Either hit cancel or watch it count down.
Also on the main status page it will show you last reset date and time.
    Hours gained at midnight.
Ours also shows hours gained the following midnight.
Its just a little confusing till you get the hang of it.

    tinytim Thanks this.
