With the way the economy is and the price of fuel,you're best to wait.Unless your company pays you what you're worth.

 

a decent big truck and trailer isn't much more money than a big straight truck with sleeper.

You may find a good deal on a trk but you always have to look at the bigger picture,will your company keep me running and how much fuel you have to buy every day.Not to mention insurance and everything else that costs to keep your trk running.

 

Be real careful and do the research before buying a straight truck. I did straight truck for years (way back when) and I've seen tons of people come into this profession thinking they are going to make crazy cash and lose their tail. One of the biggest mistakes I saw was folks buying the wrong truck whether wrong size or wrong weight (most "moving" trucks) like former Ryder and Penske trucks, which are way too heavy AND they eat up your fuel. I'd say keep looking for a driving job. I'm down here in the sand pile, too and while the jobs are much more scarce down here, there are jobs, you just gotta do the legwork. Since you have a year experience already, try some of the instate carriers like Sunstate, Boyd Bros, Windy Hill, Indian River, Sunbelt, American Freight, American Auto Transport or Oakley.

 

I think FFE uses straight trucks in south Florida; Miami & Winter Haven. Maybe talk to them first.
