There are outfits like that here also, I gave one a shot back in 2009, I got fired after one day, for refusing to speed LOL. Today, I did 4 hours of full rate paid standby. I actually brought a book to read, played games on my phone, talked to my parents, and got some great pics of BIG equipment being moved. There are a couple Excavator Operators I hustle for, but never to the point of not pissing or eating lol. Yea we can't go to Wendy's for lunch like in Freight, but I have my cooler of food/snacks/drinks and dig into that loading/dumping/waiting. Worst part of the job, is trying to drive around these new developments, with the roll off bins, cement trucks and trades everywhere. Seriously, some people should never go near zoom-booms, but hey I don't wanna run that #### so, they can have it.
I absolutely LOVE the consistent start and end times, 7:30 - 4:30 everyday almost, sometimes 3:30, but never earlier. LTL it could literally be anything, you never knew. Truck and Pup can be a little boring, depends how well the foreman spreads out his trucks. Basements is more interesting, but high risk of hitting ####/some dumb ###. But again, nothing compared to LTL. I would like to give a quad wagon a go, but we're not there as a company yet.
Incase anyone hasn't heard, the official unemployment rate in Calgary is 8%, unofficially its more like 28%. The housing market is starting to Plateau, no one under 25 can find a job, every hiring fair has 70 000+ people showing up, and 200 people a day are still moving here. This is gonna be one hell of a crash, so i'm content to ride it out with this job, no matter how boring it gets lol.
