If you go to a private school, not every company will accept their certificate. Some schools are crap and many companies will not accept their training. Be careful.

This is what I’m seeing, someone on here told me to just go with prime, due to having no car or place to stay after the 30th.

It depends on the employer. YOU SHOULD NOT BE TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN AND ONLY THEN LOOK FOR YOUR FIRST JOB. Instead you should be looking for your first job and only after that decide about CDL school. CDL school is a whirlwind of 3 weeks and you will not have enough time to responsibly pick an employer in that short amount of time.

If you try to get qualified first you can easily go to the wrong CDL school for the employer that really fits you best. That would mean giving up on your 1st choice or then going to another CDL school after just finishing CDL school.

The more you try to do an online-only job search, the more likely it is you enter and leave trucking quickly like 80-90% of newbies. Physically go to truck stops and talk to drivers. Ask any trucking company you research and want to know more about have a current working driver call you and ask that driver to provide numbers for last week/month's pay and schedule, etc. The lease useful question you can ever ask is "is this a good company". You need to know what you need and what you need isn't what the random driver you speak to needs. So words like good are not useful until you have defined good. The world wil ll not end if you make a phone call or talk to someone in real life, it just feels like the end of the world to the online-only tribe who grew up with helicopter parents and stranger danger. Recruiters are not accurate even if they wanted to be honest. They know virtually nothing about the company except the company needs X number of randos to show up as newbies. NOTHING your recruiter says will change what the company does. Talking to the current working drivers at the company is how you find out what is reality at the company and what you will get, if you ask the right questions. Getting that info is your job. Verifying that info before making a life changing decision is your job. Nobody will ride to your rescue if you don't do your job and you will live with the consequences.

Ive heard Prime has stopped taking people off the street as CDL students. Maybe I'm mistaken. Have you recently talked to Prime about you going to their CDL school? Phone calls are free.

It all depends. Does that company do business the that particular school? Some companies send representatives out to various schools as a form of recruitment. TMC and Werner came to the school I went to. I began with Western Express. Prime and Swift are as good as anywhere to get started, however, those 2 companies get so many applicants, and they're so big that they might not can get you started right away. You won't have that big of a selection in terms of beginner companies because the industry is in a freight downturn right now. Also, if you're not located in a favorable spot, that could also diminish your options.

Check out the job feature on this site, apply the filters, see which companies lookomg for students advertise on here, then get on the phone first thing Monday and call these places.

I went to mega company and got the free training and a guaranteed job after finishing. Think I to pay $800. It they gave me place to stay and was like 2 free meals a day. It was not the great because it was like bunk beds and 15-20 guys in a trailer. Now they do like 5-6 guys in a room with bunk beds probably. We did about 3 weeks training and we got CDLs then your out with a trainer for 4-6 weeks driving. Then go back for a don’t driving test bet getting our own trucks.

If you go to privet school and pay yourself you probably still have to go with trainer riding and drive together for 4-6 weeks. Usually it because the insurance companies won’t insure a new driver with new CDL and no experience. The big mega fleets are self insured for like the first 1 million dollars so they can take the risk on a new driver the pay themselves for any accidents or damages under 1 million dollars. Since they are taking that risk they pay less than other companies.

Today the also setup a separate trucking school the mega carriers owns but make new driver take a loan but they pay it back every week and if you work for them like 1 or 2 year they pay the loan for the CDL school off.

And remember, the recruiter’s job is to fill seats at the company’s orientation, that’s it.

    signs of lying.
    • When a Recruiter Says: “I'll Keep You in Mind for Future Opportunities.” ...
    • When a Recruiter Says: “Salary Depends on Experience. ...
    • When a Recruiter Says: “You'll Hear From Us Either Way.” ...

I have a co-worker who went Prime. At the time, he was in dire need of some kind of employment, with benefits (baby on the way). He was a company driver and said he was just about starving the year he was there. His next stop was JB Hunt Dedicated and he said it was an upgrade, but, still not very lucrative.
