I'm thinking about changing careers (thinking about Prime's company training) and I'm even wondering if it's worth considering this career. The issue is a suspension and DUI. So long story short, I had a DUI in Oct 2010, 90 day suspension and a fine. Now the fun part, the DMV mailed my license back a week after my court date saying there was not enough evidence to suspend my licence. So I move to OR from AL in Sep 2011 and try to change my licence as required and I get told that they can't due to it having a hold. I call the AL DMV and they say that it's suspended but eligible for reinstatement. Since I don't need to drive due to everything being within a walking distance and/or public transportation I wait till Jan of 2013 to reinstate and get a new DL. So am I even touchable since my DL was suspended for around 2 years?
Am I hireable?

I could be wrong but I think the DUI and the suspension will hurt you, mainly because this happened only few yrs ago.Try calling Prime or see what their requirements say on their website.

Patty is right, the suspension and DUI will hurt you. Having said that, most companies have a time frame for accepting drivers with DUI's... For some, the requirement is no DUI's ever, others may be none in the last 6 years etc. etc......You may be able to be hired somewhere but that is not necessarily a good thing. You will be extremely limited on your job selection and will fall into one of the "bottom feeder" companies (low pay, poor quality of life). I would research another career.

The first thing you need to do is get a lawyer. It appears that the original DUI maybe in question. The suspension of your license could simply have been an administrative thing.
As a third year law student they taught us that paying a lawyer is always the best thing.
You need to deal with the suspension prior to applying for a cdl. Insurance rates for someone who has had a license suspended within the past 2 years require an SR22 form filing in most states. That will prevent you from being hired. -
You will be hirable with a few companies. You will have to complete a private CDL school though. It's unlikely a trucking company CDL school will take you.
The private CDL school may require you to have a couple of pre-hire letters before they let you enroll, but those are easy to get. -
Carolina Cargo and possibly Western Express might hire him, lol.
Chinatown Thanks this.
