American Airlines agrees to buy 20 Boom Supersonic jets

Now they just have to find an engine manufacturer that will build the engines for the plane.
Pratt & Whitney and General Electric both have experience in developing turbofan engines with super cruise capabilities (supersonic speed without using an afterburner).

 

I wonder if takeoff and approach speeds are lower than the Concorde was. IIRC tires were a problem.

 

Rolls Royce is a good possibility. The tricky part with this aircraft is that is has some hurdles to deal with:
1. It has to be able to super cruise without generating a sonic boom over land.

2. It has to run on sustainable aviation fuel.
It’s a lot easier said than done.
The design was originally a twin engine jet,then it became a trijet,now it’s four engines,albeit with their own individual nacelles.

 

what good will this be?

as it is now, they go from one airport to another, no direct flights.

so, instead of going from RI to MD, in 2 hours, it'll be 30 seconds, then wait there for like 4 hours for your connecting flight?

i have a family member, that has had to go to St. Louis, plane does not go directly.

then another time, she had to go to Ohio, plane does not go directly.

until they get their crap together and do direct flights, then can have spaceships for all i care, they still cannot do the job they are paid to do, at those large ticket prices.
