So, I've been rolling it around in my head to 'go west young man'.
I figure this'll happen in about a year and a half (three quarters?). I'm visiting in June, and a few times - yet to be scheduled - thereafter.
Born a Vermonter (22 years) and having spent a decade in Portland, ME - working in the industry (trucking) for 16 months - I'm looking at the Spokane, WA and Northern Idaho region.
I want to know from my Northwestern denizen friends:
What are the prospects?
What do you feel I should know prior to picking up and relocating this life?
I refuse to do OTR - survived it; never going to do it again.
@Chinatown should be probably my first consult.
An Easterner (ME) headed West (WA) - to live.

Real estate (in the Sea-Tac area) is almost as costly as NYC. Truck parking real estate is totally inadequate

Washington? Why in the world would you want to live in Ca north?
That being said I enjoyed myself while living in Tacomaitaff and KillingTime Thank this. -
So elaborate!
Tell me more. -
Think twice about Washington. They re-elected a terrible governor who wants to push tax after tax. There will be an income tax one day. As time goes on, the politicians are creating more and more reasons to leave this state.
That said you might find a place right at the Idaho border and still be part of the Spokane metro area.Oxbow, fargonaz, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Friendly people, lots to do, beautiful part of the world. From coastal fun to mountains to deserts all within two hours. Major interstate that could take you anywhere you wanted to visit.
Drawback? During the rainy season you had better like rain..Oxbow and KillingTime Thank this. -
Thoughts?
I'm from that latitude... weather patterns are very similar, only influenced by different streams (gulf push vs Canadian push) -
Tell me something more if you've spent time there, lived there, have family in the region. -
Best bet is Newport, WA Or Old Town, ID (Only Seperated by the river) good location for regional/daycab work from Spokane. FYI
Lepton1 and KillingTime Thank this.
