This might be old news, I was looking for a change of venue and noted that DATS and RAC are now part of a consortium of some kind. It looks like North American Logistics bought up some regionals to put a saleable LTL together in case Amazon wants a bargain. Or something.

Here's one page in their website maze with the various company names...
Who We Are | RAC Transport
In general RAC is low-paying, their linehaul drivers make .56mi /20hr, and they naturally have lots of openings, and they have legacy barns in smaller towns, even Taos. I was on the dock at one barn years ago and it looked like the freight any other carrier would reject, loose farm and ranch supplies, etc. At that time they were paying 16/hr for P&D. They're mostly in NM and CO.

DATS is a step up in pay, early-mid-20's, also lots of openings. They're mostly in AZ, UT, and Vegas.

So one can see how combining them might expand their reach, all the four corners states covered.

Here's a direct link to the coverage map, they claim direct service all the way from West Texas to the Northern Territories... [IMG]

Both had older equipment last I saw, but not kept badly.

Anyone know what the situation with them is?

Small interline carriers that used to be fed by the big LTL carriers to out of the way points.
RAC leased a few doors back in the early 80s from the outfit I worked for.
DATS was a family run operation.

They have a very loose definition of “direct service.” Clicked through a few locations, and it looks like they’re using Price Truck Lines in Kansas and Cross Country Freight in Nebraska and the Dakotas.
