Well I will be attending driving school down in TN for Swift in a couple
of weeks. Wish me well. Although, all the negative about the company
still has me a little iffy. I really hope I want have a bad expierence.
I am currently still employed with Wal Mart as a Department Manager.
Well at least for two more weeks. I really have enjoyed my 10 years at
Wally World, plus my pay was great. But 15 years total in retail kinda
makes you want to do something different. So I choose to apply with
Swift after talking with some of the Swift drivers that deliver our freight.
They all had good things to say about the company. Nothing really
negative or what is being talked about on the forums. A couple of drivers
even say they bring home just a little over a $1000 a week. I did not try to get in to detail on how they make that much, but I would hope that I
can bring home the same amount after all the training. I believe most of
the drivers take on these routes considered " Comfort Zones " which
I guess keeps them close to home. They still are considered OTR as
they drive as far as Tennessee and into a couple other states that I
can't remember at this time. Nice trucks. Looks like they take good care
of their fleet. And they're driving new Volvos. Pretty reliable trucks so
hopefully I want have a break down anytime soon. Even though I read
a few negative things about the company in general I would like to
see for myself if their really is that big of problem. All I need is your
blessing, and a few questions answered from those that are still currently
    employed or just recently left.

    1) realisticly, how much can you bring home a week?
    2) Is there more money driving locally or regionally?
3)Are you gauranteed to drive the amount of miles they said you would
    when you go solo?
4)Will I have to file bankruptcy a year down the road. (Threw that in for fun)
    5) Do they cut corners when training you for safety?
    6) What won't the driving academy teach you?
    7) Should I turn away and never look back?

Sorry for the long post. I just want to make sure this is really want I
want to do for the next few years.

    Thanks for reading, Kenneth.

PS, I write you from Marietta(Atlanta) Georgia.

welcome to the forum my fellow goergian. before questions can be answered you must answer one yourself. BULLDOGS or YELLOW JACKETS. neither is not an option.

Well Cerberus I wish I could answer that, but I don't get into sports like I
used to years ago as my main passion is music and audio engineering.
I have an audio application open now as I read this forum trying to learn
    some new mixdown techniques.

My son went to Swifts School in TN.......................I feel very sorry for you........You are going to obligate yourself to a very large sum of money and get little or no return.

Best case scenario is that you complete the school and live in poverty for a year, until you have enough experience to make a little more money at a different company.....

Worst Case........You kill yourself or someone else because you were inproperly trained. If you survive you get to go to prison.

Probably, you'll land somewhere in the middle and will be Swifted out. Swifted out means you had 2 or 3 minor accidents and Swift fired you......Then they blackballed you because they do not want another company profiting from a driver they trained.

I hope you have no family...........

Jeez you really hurt my feelings with that. Still most of our Swift drivers that deliver to Wal Mart say they like working for Swift. Mind you these
are not recruiters either. I am going to have to experience it first hand and report back to the forum on occasion. I am single at the moment. But
I still want to see my niece grow up.

Hurt you feelings? Not my intention at all. I tried to give you an honest opinion.

Those drivers aren't recruiters? Are you sure? I suppose they don't get any kind of referral bonus at all. If they get a referral bonus they get paid to lie to you.....all you have to do is tell the company, "I talked to Joe Smoe on truck xxxx" . Go read the threads about Swift........Nobody here gets paid to tell you the good stuff or the bad stuff about Swift.

You will believe what you want to but I want you to remember this....When the poop hits the fan, think about what the fat kid in Illinois told you and Cover your rear.............

One last thing and I'll leave you be....It is your future and could be your life.....check out Swifts safety record and ask your recruiter why their turnover rate is over 400%

the answer to question number 6 is they wont show you how to slide tandems,5th wheel,or how to couple the t/t.

question numer 7 run like heck......the academy they have down in Millington Tn is like a prison for truckers..

take warm clothes and rain gear because the only thing that's gonna keep you off the range is lightening.I was in class 515 back in March out of 130 of us only 47 finished from our class and to this day to our knowledge only 1 guy is still with them.
