I brought a truck home last night that I am going to drive for until I get settled with my insurance co.
It is an 06 W9 and it has a toggle switch labeled abs offroad, What is that??

They have those on some oilfields trucks. If I understand it right it shuts off abs for off-road or dirt road applications.. So you run conventional braking system.

Supposedly on dirt roads with steep inclines going down the abs can lock up the brakes when braking.

We were instructed as soon as we hit the dirt road to shut it off.

I have never seen one, I feel kind of stupid, been playing with these trucks for years, and I think this may be the first time I had to ask what a switch was for. lol

This is the truck I passed up buying, it is a nice truck, but the jury is still out on it, that cummins sure don't have the low end get up and go my truck has while bobtailing, I hope it does better with a load on it.

They tried super singles for awhile & it was a joke off road. We would have to run with lockers activated where duals went through no problem .

This truck has neway suspension, just like my truck, so traction should be good. The thing I have noticed the most is the throttle is so touchy, that bobtailing on ice, it is hard to go from a stop and build up speed without spinning, and on potholed ice, it is hard to run slow(5 mph) and hold it even close to steady.

Like I said, the jury is still out, but so far I wouldn't trade mine for 3 of these, and they are nearly the same truck, just newer and cummins versus cat. lol

I guess I could rephrase that . if the off road abs switch is off now then that is probably highway mode . so it would need to be on for off road-dirt.

Early ABS did stupid stuff. Off road 4x4 would loose traction on loose stuff and grab the brakes to keep from sliding backwards down the hills 'cept the ABS thought the wheels locked and released 'em...multiple lawsuits. Traction turns off when my silverado is put in 4x4 low...

I think I's want an ABS off if I was going in the dirt.
