Lol you don't share Chinatown's optimism for reefer.....quite contrare, I don’t share the pessimism you do about reefer. That's my favorite sector of trucking..night work, great sleep when the reefer runs, steady income, i I get 10 hr breaks while unloading lol. I tend to believe, regardless of sector, that a driver's success and longevity will be determined by his attitude and how many pessimists he allows to indoctrinate his thinking.

I don't mean to be the "Anti-Chinatown" here, he provides a valuable service that most of the time, goes unnoticed. The only way I did reefer was by the hour, and saw my fair share of upset drivers, vowing to "never come back to this GD place",,only to see them there 2 weeks later. In a dedicated situation, yes, there are plenty of decent reefer jobs. Thing is, a newbie is going to get all the crap a more seasoned driver knows to stay away from. Grocery warehouses, a major destination for reefers, has to be the worst, and I went to them all, even some that are gone now( Dominicks, Jewel, etc) I saw these places almost daily, and got to know the recievers, and they knew I got paid by the hour, and I didn't care if I sat there all day for 2 pallets. The biggest problem there was telling MY boss what took so long. I actually made decent money waiting for these shmucks,,,% drivers, not so much.

I delivered to Jewel in Chicago many times. That one was actually one of the best to deliver to. Never had a bad experience there.

A good chunk of places I deliver to are grocery warehouses. Some are better than others. It's the nature of the beast. Sometimes in trucking, one has to learn to eat ####, and like the taste of it.

    I love reefer too.
If it's in the blood, we may have a blood infection.
I think reefer is a good and solid career.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

You acknowledged the free service provided by @Chinatown.
I'm surprised. Pleasantly surprised. Better late than never.
I don't know much about him. But I believe that he is a great human being.
I wish that more drivers will be like him.
I wish that you could be like him. I guess you have a lot to share from your vast experience.
    Am I right?

    Speed_Drums and RubyEagle Thank this.

Everyone claims to hate reefer loads, until the economic downturns, freight slows, and reefers are still running at full capacity... because people are going to eat, even during hard times. Suddenly that night work doesn't seem so bad after all when compared to sitting for days at the truck stop waiting to get a load booked.

If you've been out here long enough, think back to 08/09... did your rates fall? Did your freight crash? Or did you haul reefer?
